on duty in assigned areas, and guidance and teaching for house staff, physician assistants and students rotating through the department.xc2xa0 Responsible for all medical staff actions and all patients seen in assigned areas while on duty.xc2xa0 Performs non-clinical functions including lectures, research and administrative responsibilities but not limited in the areas of Ultrasound, Research, Education, Toxicology, Prehospital Medicine, Simulation or Administration.xc2xa0Typical DutiesTreats patients primarily who present for care in the Emergency Department.Provides appropriate supervision to ensure quality patient care is provided by resident staff, physician assistants and students in the Emergency Department.xc2xa0 Provide overall supervision of all the cases seen the area.Provides appropriate medical care, appropriate discharge planning, appropriate decisions regarding admission of patients to various services, appropriate laboratory and x-ray procedures are ordered, and ensure overall quality of patient care in the area.Completes charts promptly per departmental policy and follow the appropriate procedures for patient billing.Ensures efficient flow of patients through the Emergency Department.xc2xa0 Laboratory and X-ray studies should be retrieved in a timely fashion and decisions made to discharge or admit patients as rapidly as possible, while ensuring patient quality is maintained.Follows and enforces existing policies and protocols in the department.Serves as a role model to all house staff / students and must be present, at all times, both for appropriate manner of providing patient care, contact with the family, and contact with ancillary personnel including nursing staff and staff from other services.Provides leadership in the department while on duty and resolve administrative issues according to policies and procedures which are established.Responds to requests from nurses and other emergency department personnel for patient evaluations and decisions regarding care.Completes non-clinical functions as assigned by Divisional Director or Chairman of Department.Attends faculty meeting and departmental conferences as directed by Chairman of Department.Lectures to the residents and medical students and participate/lead oral examinations and small group learning sessions.Participates in research projects and scholarly activities.Participates and complies with departmental CQI activities.xc2xa0MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSM.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited American or Canadian Medical School Board certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine at the anticipated start dateCompletion of an American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM) approved Emergency Medicine residency program by the anticipated start dateOutstanding letter or recommendation from Emergency Medicine Residency Director or Emergency Medicine ChairRecent emergency medicine lecture to academic audience within preceding 12 monthsKnowledge of emergency ultrasounds including ability to perform and teach ultrasound related to the following applications/body areas: FAST, OB-Gyne, vascular procedures, ocularMust be licensed as a physician in the State of Illinois Valid Illinois Controlled Substance License or ability to obtain License by start of employmentValid licensure with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration
